If California experienced an earthquake like the one that rocked Chile, strict building codes and a culture of preparedness are on its side, but citizens have to take responsibility, observers say.
California is well prepared to deal with an earthquake on par with the Chile earthquake on Saturday, but residents can do more to help themselves, disaster preparedness experts say.
Because it lies on the San Andreas fault, the tectonic boundary between the Pacific and the North American plates, California’s vulnerability to earthquakes has been well-documented since the late 1800s. Because building codes call for steel reinforcements – some tall buildings are even built on rolling foundations – the physical devastation to man-made structures that would happen here in a massive earthquake would be far less than Haiti or Chile.
Government response in California is also among the most sophisticated in the US, according to David Paulison, a head administrator for FEMA from 2005 to 2009.

The background history of this case goes something like this: In the 1960s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada's most eastern province was also Canada's poorest. Fortunately, Newfoundland had a river in Labrador with great hydroelectric potential it wanted to develop and sell the power to the New England States. Unfortunately, the only way to get the power to market was to build a power line through Quebec.
So the Newfoundland Government set up a company called NALCOR to develop the project and negotiate a 'deal' with Hydro Quebec--and NALCOR was financed by the Rothschilds--Alarm bells now should ring!
Anyway here's the deal they signed in 1969, when energy was cheap with oil at two dollars a barrel: Newfoundland would sell the power to Quebec for $10 million dollars a year, and Quebec would sell it to the US--and the deal was signed for 60 years. It seemed like a good deal at the time; however, a few years later, the energy crises hit and Quebec made billions off the deal while Newfoundland, Canada's poorest province, got screwed. Quebec makes a billion dollars a year while Newfoundland only gets ten million!
Needless to say, the people of Newfoundland came to resent and even hate Quebec for this injustice. In 1988, the Newfoundland government even tried to challenge the contract in the Supreme Court of Canada but the court ruled in Quebec's favour.
All through it all, Quebec's line is that a contract is a contract--especially since they already resented Newfoundland for being granted ownership over Labrador based on a decision of the British Privy Council in 1929(the same Privy Council that gave the Northern BC coast to the US)--Quebec believes they really own Labrador and that THEY got screwed in 1929.
Now recently, the Premier of Quebec, alluded that it might be possible for Newfoundland to get some justice by suing Hydro Quebec in a Quebec Civil Court, and Newfoundland has decided to take the bait, which in my view, could be the beginning of the end of Canada.
The judge in Quebec's Court will be facing a very major dilemma: He could rule that the case was already decided by Canada's Supreme court; hence, Quebec is in the right. But if he does this, Quebec is acknowledging Canadian authority, and it could inflame the separatist movement in the next provincial election.
However, if the the Judge rules in Newfoundland's favour, which is very likely to happen, then all of Quebec may want to separate from Canada. they'll elect a separatist government and a third referendum will be held and be successful this time. (The last referendum in 1995 only lost by less then one percent)
So there you have it: use this issue to make Quebec voters believe they got screwed by Canada, and within five years they vote to secede. When Quebec leaves Canada, the country is then geographically cut off from the four eastern provinces. Richer western provinces like BC and Alberta will then separate, Ontario will separate, and the remaining provinces will probably end up as American states, with the three richer ones soon to follow for the sake of unity and military protection.
And the suit is being launched by NALCOR--a Rothschild financed conglomerate!
Does this mean the Rothschilds were screwed by Quebec too?
No, Definitely not, it was part of their greater plan--what's a hundred billion a year when you already own half the world?--for all I know, they probably also financed Hydro Quebec--they probably own both companies and using them in their little chess game, like in 1914, and 1939etc, etc..It's not a bad deal for them since they already own the whole pot, it's just a bad deal for Newfoundland, and possibly for Canada.

'While the Top End and Central Australia have been battered by torrential rains, a Territory town has had fish falling from the sky. The freak phenomena happened not once, but twice, on Thursday and Friday afternoon about 6pm at Lajamanu, about 550km southwest of Katherine.
Newsbreaker Christine Balmer, who took these photos of the fish on the ground and in a bucket, had to pinch herself when she was told ``hundreds and hundreds" of small white fish had fallen from the sky.
"It rained fish in Lajamanu on Thursday and Friday night," she said, "They fell from the sky everywhere. "Locals were picking them up off the footy oval and on the ground everywhere. "These fish were alive when they hit the ground."

I want you to look very closely at this picture and try and keep it in your minds eye. This was a perfectly healthy twenty two-year-old young man who in the service of his country got half of his head blown off. I think that’s important, I think that’s newsworthy. Let me tell you how newsworthy I think it is. I think that it’s more important than chocolate cake recipes and far more important than comic book reviews. It is more important than who fell and whose swell at the winter Olympic games.
It is far more important than any self-serving load of crap banged out by Pseudo doctor Amy. It is more important than American Idol or Lost or any other mindless goat droppings the public chooses to chew on. This is some American mother’s son, her little boy, he may be gay or straight or transgender but his life is fucked forever.
How did this come to happen to this poor mother’s son? It came to happen because the people in the media who are supposed to foster a public debate on such public issues as war instead used their franchise to promote articles about chocolate cake and comic book reviews. They see their free press as free to choose not to look when bad thinks happen. They feel no need to explain to his parents or to anyone that the war that blew off half of this poor boys head was based on out and out lies.
It was a war perpetrated by people who hoped to gain from it be it in oil or pipelines or service contracts and like the media they don’t care that this mother’s son is mangled and mutilated. Do you care? I’ve been married twice for a combined twenty-five years and in that time I doubt my wives ever baked a chocolate cake. I don’t read comic books or watch goat crap TV but you see I’ve got a son about this boy’s age. My heart aches and my mind fills with rage because the people that have the power and authority to show this picture would rather talk about American Idol and from where I sit that makes them an accomplice to a war crime.
Because not content to ignore the current victims they support more crimes and call for more wars. Several years ago in Iraq parents waited for their children at a bus stop. An errant coalition missile struck the bus stop and blew the elementary school age children to pieces. Needless to say this wasn’t widely reported but the parents in a frenzy began fighting over the body parts of their children. Little arms and legs, little headless torsos identifiable only by the shirt or dress they were wearing. Imagine the horror, imagine the type of people who could do such a thing. How do they live with themselves? How do they sleep at night?
They do it by watching Lost and American Idol and by eating chocolate cake. They read comic books and watch sports. It makes life easy because the media will not intrude on their fantasy world but instead will promote the fantasy. Oh, but who won the gold metal in curling and who was eliminated on American Idol.

In December 2012 and possibly many months before the Earth could become bombarded by massive solar flares which will knock out most all satellite electronics and blind the Earth for many years to come until more satellites can be built. But the greatest threat is from the CMEs or coronal mass ejections from the Sun. Solar flares have much less chance of hitting the Earth and their energy is much smaller than a coronal mass ejection. Coronal mass ejections are far more massive and carry much greater energy.In the late 1800s when the sun was very active the telegraphs of their day were reported to work by themselves without their electric batteries. The crude telegraphs were made out of heavy gauge wires. Our electronics today are extremely fragile and even land based electronics might well be damage extensively from a mega solar flare hitting the Earth or especially a CME or coronal mass ejection.Mankind will be in the greatest danger in December of 2012. Before this time much of the satellites above the Earth will probably be damaged beyond repair and useless junk in space. But in December the planets align with the Earth and this is when the Sun could send a huge coronal mass ejection aimed directly at the Earth. The shading effect of the planets will be in line with the Earth and a shading effect will funnel any CME directly to Earth.In December and before most land based electronics might be severely damaged or destroyed by CMEs. If electronics are not turned off and enclosed in metal or aluminum foil to deflect heavy ion radiations then these solid state electronic devices might be overloaded and destroyed. Additional underground shielding might be required to prevent damage to critical electronics. Little research is known about CME damage so this is highly speculative but it is a logical conclusion of CMEs and high energy particles reaching the Earth during peak solar maximums.This possible massive CME electronic damage will poise a grave risk to all modern armies that depend on electronics as their main force multiplier. Armies need to learn very quickly how to fully protect their most sensitive equipment at least temporarily during peak CME activity of the 24th solar maximum beginning possibly as early as 2010 but much more likely in early 2011.CMEs take three to five days to reach the Earth. And so no long range detonations will be possible. Most all major combat engagements will be eyeball to eyeball so to speak and detonations of major nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons would likely harm both sides of a conflict nearly equally.2012 will likely end modern warfare for many generations to come if not entirely. Israel will be particularly vulnerable to attack and outnumbered for years to come. Surrounded on all sides by Arabs which have large conventional armies. If Israel doesn't take steps to dramatically reduce electronic damage to planes, tanks, missiles, and communications then Israel will have to stockpile conventional ammunitons because little help will be forthcoming from the USA and little transport of any kind will be available for many years.Only nuclear weapons used liberally on all surrounding Arab territories and cities for hundreds of miles could save Israel from massive conventional attacks from Arabs. Since Arabs have largely conventional Armies and weapons they can simply walk into Israel areas of combat to engage the enemy. And without the electronic multiplier of weapons Israelis will be greatly outnumbered. But they will have the advantage of the defender and they will be fighting for their lives because they will be surrounded. Of the two adversaries I would have to go with Israel as the probable winner in this possible war of the future. But it would be only by the use of all of their nuclear weapons in a kind of scorched Earth policy upon all the surrounding Arab lands and cities closest to Israel. Hopefully they will have enough nuclear weapons. But if not there will be only escape from the sea to a world which will be little prepared to receive them and not much better off than them.I doubt that major wars after 2012 will be motivated by ethnic or religious bigotry and hatred. The main wars will be over oil, water, minerals, and croplands for basic survival needs. The world will have to revert to a vegetarian lifestyle for many decades because grains will be needed to feed people instead of animals. The only animal husbandry would be open range cattle and sheep livestock which can make use of marginal grazing lands.The West has relied on electronic warfare as its major force multiplier but it has million of potential recruits from fairly large populations to drawn from for increasing conventional armies. But large armies may be a thing of the past after December 2012 or before. America is somewhat isolated from any potential enemies. Only Mexico's lawlessness and poverty might be a major concern after 2012.Most ethic and religious differences and resource wars would occur in Asia and Africa. Australia would be a save haven because of its great distance from any possible enemy or attack but they might be deluged with boat people trying to sail to their country for a safe haven. The lack of oil and energy to move armies being Australia's biggest protection. Lack of water resources might be Australia's biggest weakness in this time of predicted great droughts.It seems prudent to research extensively now in 2009 the damage that might be caused by 2012 massive CME events and prepare adequate countermeasures to protect those electronic assets. But few people take these events seriously to their great future peril. Hopefully I am wrong and they will not occur or they will not be as severe as expected. This is a time of increased light energy from the galactic center of our galaxy which acts like a laser of concentrated light energy and is heating up our planet and the Sun slightly. And this increased heat will continue building up like an oven and remain with us for many years. Seaports will need to be moved far inland for protection from massive hurricanes and populations will shift dramatically.I see electronic warfare ending for good on this planet one way or another after 2012 as mankind shifts major resources into just surviving the next year with enough food, energy, and water. Little energy and resources will be available to make war. And all of mankind will be given a second chance to get it right and live in harmony with Nature instead of conquering nature. Pollution will be gone almost overnight when the lights go out. This is a time of increased light energy from the galactic center of our galaxy which acts like a laser of concentrated light energy and is heating up our planet and the Sun slightly. And this increased heat will continue building up like an oven and remain with us for many years. Seaports will need to be moved far inland for protection from massive hurricanes and populations will shift dramatically.I see electronic warfare ending for good on this planet one way or another after 2012 as mankind shifts major resources into just surviving the next year with enough food, energy, and water. Up here in the Northeastern Part of Montana we just recovered from a Historic event --- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands. FYI: Obama did not come. FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV. Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayors did not blame Obama or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Obama or anyone else either. CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or even report on this category 5 snow storm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted. Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something. Nobody expected the government to do anything either. No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Brad Pitts, No Hollywood types to be found. Nope, we just melted the snow for water.Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny. Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snow bound families.. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die". We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks. Even though a Category 5 blizzard of this scale is not usual, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves. I hope this gets passed on. Maybe ..... SOME people will get the message ...... The world does Not owe you a living.

Carlyle Group Forms Partnership With Chinese Conglomerate, NY Times

SHANGHAI — The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s biggest private equity firms, said Wednesday that it had formed a partnership with one of the largest Chinese conglomerates to invest in China and around the world.
The deal with Fosun Group of Shanghai, which has holdings in steel, mining, pharmaceuticals and real estate, is Carlyle’s latest push into the fastest-growing major economy and an additional indication of the larger role Chinese companies are seeking to play in global deal-making.
At a news conference Wednesday, executives from the two companies, including David M. Rubenstein, a founder of Carlyle, said the partners had already set up a $100 million fund denominated in China’s currency, the renminbi, to invest in emerging Chinese companies.
