I Can't Get Any Satisfaction by Rabbi Daniel Lapin

Why is it that people who excessively indulge their physical appetites for food, sensuality or material goods, to the point we could call it an addiction, often yield to many other temptations as well?

Shakespeare created his character Sir John Falstaff to highlight this very truth. Not only is Falstaff a glutton and a drunkard but he is also a liar and a coward. In yielding to physical appetite he also yields to decay of character.

Before I was ever taught Shakespeare’s depiction of this principle, I had already been taught it from the Book of Numbers.

The rabble that was among them cultivated a craving
and the Children of Israel wept crying, ‘Who will feed us meat?’
(Numbers 11:4)

Though they had God’s miracle food, Manna, they still lusted for meat. Their desire for variety in food was quickly followed by desire for variety in another area.

Moses heard the nation crying about their families…
(Numbers 11:10)
Ancient Jewish wisdom explains that they were angry about the limitations on physical relationships and the rules for moral family life which they had received in the Torah a year earlier on Mt. Sinai.

What can we learn from the juxtaposition of problems with these two appetites? Can this section help us deal more effectively with situations in which we or people with whom we have to interact are controlled by physical desires rather than in control of them?

The clue is the rule of sevens. We frequently find the most important clue in a perplexing passage of the Torah by looking to see what Hebrew root word appears seven times. Once we have located the word which appears exactly seven times in this section of chapter eleven, we will have identified our motif.

It turns out that variations of the Hebrew root ASF, which means gathering, appear seven times in noun or verb format.

One: The rabble (ASaFsuf) that was among them...
(Numbers 11:4)

Two: God said to Moses, ‘Gather (ASFah) me
seventy men from the elders...
(Numbers 11:16)

Three: ...if all the fish of the sea were gathered (y’ASaF)
for them would it suffice for them?
(Numbers 11:22)

Four: ...and he gathered (vay’ASaF) seventy men
from among the elders...
(Numbers 11:24)

Five: And Moses was gathered (vay’ASaF) into the camp,
he and the elders of Israel.
(Numbers 11:30)

Six: ...and they gathered (vayASaFu) up the quails...
(Numbers 11:32)
Seven: ...the one with the least still gathered (ASaF) ten measures... (Numbers 11:32)

The motif word ‘gathering’ implies gathering for a specific purpose rather than a bunch of people or things in the same place and time by happenstance. While gathering the manna was good, gathering the food here was bad, having little to do with real hunger and everything to do with lust. Moses gathered himself and the seventy elders into the camp, where, injected with God’s spirit, they successfully countered the gathering of fleshly rabble.

In other words the solution to excesses of the flesh is an injection of the spirit. Over-indulgence of a physical substance reflects a lack of spiritual completion. There is a reason that Alcoholics Anonymous and other successful rehab groups focus on building the person and connecting him with a higher power rather than just treating the physical addiction. There is a reason that people who exert tremendous effort to wean themselves from one physical addiction frequently succumb to another. People who mistreat their bodies reveal pain-filled souls.

We all need to gather enough to fill our needs. The more successful our spiritual gathering is, the less we need to over-emphasize the physical realm. One of the tragic aspects of many people’s lives is feeling no spiritual energy from their daily work. Working leaves them drained rather than invigorated, feeling somewhat dishonorable rather than principled. Not surprisingly, those who feel this way rarely flourish economically. I spent many years compiling three resources to help people become successful at making money and to do so with heads held high and joy-filled souls. I urge you to take advantage of the sale on The Income Abundance Set this week and gather both physical and spiritual blessings into your life.

Slow Dancing in a Burning Room

"Slow Dancing In A Burning Room"

It's not a silly little moment,
It's not the storm before the calm.
This is the deep and dying breath of
This love that we've been working on.

Can't seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms.
Nobody's gonna come and save you,
We pulled too many false alarms.

We're going down,
And you can see it too.
We're going down,
And you know that we're doomed.
My dear,
We're slow dancing in a burning room.

I was the one you always dreamed of,
You were the one I tried to draw.
How dare you say it's nothing to me?
Baby, you're the only light I ever saw.

I'll make the most of all the sadness,
You'll be a bitch because you can.
You try to hit me just to hurt me
So you leave me feeling dirty
Because you can't understand.

We're going down,
And you can see it too.
We're going down,
And you know that we're doomed.
My dear,
We're slow dancing in a burning room.

Go cry about it - why don't you?

My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room,
Burning room,

Don't you think we oughta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we oughta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don't you think we oughta know by now?
Don't you think we shoulda learned somehow?

How Do You Handle Adversity?

How Do You Handle Adversity?
By: Author Unknown

A certain daughter complained to her father about her life
and how things have been so hard for her. She did not know
how she was going to make it and she wanted to give up. She
was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed that just
as one problem was solved another arose.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen, filled three
pots with water and placed the fire on high. Soon the three
pots came to a boil.

In one he placed carrots, in the other he placed eggs, and
in the last he placed ground coffee beans. He let them sit
and boil, without saying a word.

The daughter sucked her teeth and impatiently wondered what
he was trying to do. She had problems, and he was making
this strange concoction. In half an hour he walked over to
the oven and turned down the fire. He pulled the carrots
out and placed them in the bowl. He pulled the eggs out and
placed them in the bowl. Then he ladled the coffee out and
placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her he asked. "Darling what do you see,"

Smartly, she replied. "Carrots, eggs, and coffee."

He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots.
She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her
to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell,
she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her
to sip the coffee. Her face frowned from the strength of
the coffee.

Humbly, she asked. "What does it mean Father?"

He explained. "Each of them faced the same adversity,
212 degrees of boiling water. However each reacted
differently."

"The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. But
after going through boiling water, it softened and
became weak."

"The egg was fragile. A thin outer shell protected a liquid
center. But after sitting through the boiling water, its
inside became hardened."

"The coffee beans are unique however. After they were in
the boiling water, it became stronger and richer." "Which
are you," he asked his daughter.

When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?

Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

Are you the carrot that seems hard, but with the smallest
amount of pain, adversity, heat you wilt and become soft
with no strength?

Are you the egg, which starts off with a malleable heart, a
fluid spirit? But after a death, a breakup, a divorce, a
layoff you became hardened and stiff. Your shell looks the
same, but you are so bitter and tough with a stiff spirit
and heart, internally.

Or are you like the coffee bean? The bean does not get its
peak flavor and robust until it reaches 212 degrees
Fahrenheit. When the water gets the hottest, it just tastes
better. When things are there worst, you get better. When
people talk the most, your praises increase. When the hour
is the darkest, trials are their greatest, your worship
elevates to another level.

How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a
coffee bean?

Gandhi's Speech on Non-Violence 9/11/1906

Gandhi: I want to welcome you all. Every one of you. We have no secrets. Let us begin by being clear about General Smuts' new law: All Indians must now be fingerprinted, like criminals, men and women. No marriage, other than a Christian marriage, is considered valid. Under this Act, our wives and mothers are whores, and every man here is a bastard. And our policemen, passing an Indian dwelling -- I will not call them homes -- may enter and demand the card of any Indian woman whose dwelling it is. Understand, he does not have to stand at the door. He may enter.

Muslim Audience Member #1: I will not allow it.
Muslim Audience Member #2: I swear to Allah: I'll kill the man who offers that insult to my home and my wife. And, let them hang me.
Audience Member #3: I say, talk means nothing! Kill a few officials before they disgrace one Indian woman! Then, they might think twice about such laws!
Audience Member #4: In that cause, I would be willing to die!!

Gandhi: I praise such courage. I need such courage because in this cause I, too, am prepared to die. But, my friend, there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill. Whatever they do to us, we will attack no one, kill no one, but we will not give our fingerprints -- not one of us. They will imprison us, and they will fine us. They will seize our possessions, but they cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them. Audience Member #5: Have you been to prison?! They beat us and torture us! I say that we should -- Gandhi: I am asking you to fight! To fight against their anger, not to provoke it. We will not strike a blow, but we will receive them. And through our pain we will make them see their injustice, and it will hurt -- as all fighting hurts. But we cannot lose. We cannot. They may torture my body, break my bones, even kill me. Then, they will have my dead body -- not my obedience. We are Hindu and Muslim, children of God, each one of us. Let us take a solemn oath, in His name, that come what may we will not submit to this law.

It is Time to Become Positive!

This is the time to be positive and avoid negative thinking at all costs. Negative thoughts will ruin your life. Instead, fill your mind with positive thoughts. Today and everyday think of all the great things that are taking place in your life. I want you to fill your mind with positive thoughts so that you enjoy your life. So that you get more of what you want and less of what you don't want. So that you experience joy, happiness and success in every area of your life. If you're with family or loved one then appreciate the positive things about them. Don't focus on the negative. If you're on your own then think of all the positive things that happen to you and the wonderful people who enter your life everyday. Each day there are numerous positive events and things that happen in your, but you often overlook them, or take them for granted. When you take a moment to appreciate the positive things and begin to fill your mind with positive thoughts you begin to attract positive events, people and situations into your life. But when you have negative thoughts, you create negative events and you attract more negative situations into your life... not something you really want to do. Negative thoughts and negative thinking lead to a negative life. When negative thoughts enter your mind they can quickly spread like wildfire and before you know it they fill your mind, and kick out all the positive thoughts. Negative thoughts are like a cancer of the mind. If not caught early and removed they can and will destroy your life. Many times the negative cycle begins with just a single, meaningless negative thought. That negative thought leads to another negative thought, then another and before you know... the wildfire has begun and getting rid of those negative thoughts might seem impossible. But you can eliminate the negative thinking when you take control of your mind and direct your subconscious mind to attract what you want in life. You can begin by filling your mind with positive thoughts. This will begin to move the mind in a new direction. At first you might find it difficult to think positive thoughts. You may even say: "I can't think of anything positive in my life." You only feel this way because you're so used to having negative thoughts. But as you push your mind to be more positive the process will get easier. Next, eliminate the negative thoughts. Track your thoughts and anytime you catch yourself having a negative thought, remove it or eliminate it. Then replace it with a positive thoughts. Now you begin to move your mind in a new direction. Next, start directing your subconscious mind to create what you want by regularly thinking of what you want. Feed your mind and subconscious mind positive information and you'll attract positive situations into your life.

Give your mind and subconscious mind the directions to help you succeed. Your thoughts and beliefs are the fuels that drive your subconscious. Feed your subconscious negative thoughts and negative beliefs and you'll stall your engine. That means you won't be able to achieve your goals. Feed your subconscious positive thoughts and positive beliefs - and you turbocharge yourself to success. Start changing your thoughts today. Begin directing your mind and subconscious mind to help you live the life you want and achieve your goals. Your subconscious mind responds to your thoughts and beliefs. Your attitude is an extension of those thoughts and beliefs. Begin feeding your mind and subconscious mind positive messages and you begin creating a positive lifestyle.

Spend it or invest it (and I'm not talking about money)...

My goal is to get you to THINK!

To really THINK about what you are doing with your life and why you do not have all the abundance you deserve.

Awareness is always the first step to change. The lessons I am sharing with you are about awareness. You get to choose what you want to do with your new awareness.

If you look at socioeconomic studies for low income households, you will find that they may have a copy of the National Enquirer or a Bible in their homes. If you go to a medium income household you will find a few books (usually by the toilet!) with a glossy gossip magazine in the family room. But what do you think you will find in high income household? A library of non-fiction books.

So the question we must ask is this: is the socioeconomic status determined by what people read or does what people read bring the status? I will guarantee you it is the latter.

All great leaders are readers. You will never grow spiritually, emotionally or financially by watching TV news and reading the tabloids. Remember there are only two things you can do with your brainpower as it relates to time. You can either spend it, or invest it. Time spent (wasted) is gone forever. Investment in the form of learning creates a lifetime of payoff not only in knowledge, but in income as well. Decide right now that you are going to invest your greatest asset, which is your time, in learning and studying things that will bring you closer to your desires.

Today will bring you a new awareness, a lesson or a manifestation that you are making progress - IF YOU LOOK FOR IT! No matter how large or small, please record it in your Evidence Journal. It will only take a few moments and will AUTOMATICALLY put you in the Flow.

Truly Caring for Your Success!

Stairway to Heaven by Rabbi Daniel Lapin

Stairway to Heaven Posted on October 30, 2010 by Rabbi Daniel Lapin

I recently eavesdropped on a conversation taking place at a table adjacent to mine. A customer in the Dallas kosher restaurant in which I was having dinner was talking to the waitress. After thanking the waitress for excellent service, he asked what she did when she wasn’t waiting tables. When she responded that she was a recent immigrant and didn’t yet have other work, he said, “How would you like to earn a good living by helping women enjoy healthier skin and better looks?” To my amazement, there and then he hired the waitress to staff a cosmetic sales kiosk in one of the larger malls in Texas. Never mind hiring the waitress—I would have liked to hire him. He knew not to ask his prospect, “How would you like to make a lot of money persuading passersby to try a hand cream?” Instead, he motivated by painting a picture of a higher purpose. I remember how easy it was to ignite a contagious enthusiasm for chores among my young children provided I first spoke about how much we all owed my wife, their mother, before assigning tasks. I appealed to a higher purpose. Most of the brave men and women who enlist in the military do so to defend freedom and protect their loved ones. Army recruiters rightly emphasize these attributes rather than the pay or the working conditions. Needless to say, just as fire can cook delicious food, heat our homes and provide mechanized transport, it can also burn and destroy. The more powerful a tool, the more powerfully it can be used for both good and evil. Similarly, tapping into the worthy human desire to strive for a greater purpose than merely our physical existence can also be used for both good and evil. Politicians win support for unpopular policies by explaining, for instance, that confiscatory rates of taxation are necessary to “give every citizen free medicine,” to “help the children” or to “end poverty.” They know better than to justify higher taxes by explaining that they wish to hire more of their friends and provide them with lavish retirement benefits. Nimrod, who enslaved the populace to build the Tower of Babel, knew as all tyrants know, that you cannot subdue people by telling them, “I want to enslave you. I want you to work for my aggrandizement.” You have to find a way to appeal to their desire for a higher purpose. …Come; let us build a city and a tower whose top will reach heaven… (Genesis 11:4) Nimrod was speaking to a spiritual need. The tower was a metaphor for appealing to a higher purpose. In the Lord’s language, Hebrew, the word for tower-MiGDaL is closely related to the word for great-GaDoL. Not only is a tower a great building, but it is the physical depiction of our own human yearning to find transcendent purpose in our lives. Often companies build enormous headquarters, not because they need the space but because they want a symbol of their vision. Every one of us yearns to reach for the sky. Similarly, by orating about his stairway to Heaven, Nimrod is saying, “Come with me, I will help you reach for your highest aspirations.” On the positive side, knowing that on the deepest level most people are motivated best by a call to higher purpose is a practical and indispensable tool for managing a military, a business, or a family. A good leader takes the time to share his or her vision and the idea and passion behind it rather than simply relaying the task that needs to be accomplished. Mundane and often boring jobs lay the groundwork for majestic missions. Being able to envision the goal in grand terms makes even difficult tasks achievable. As for the waitress, I hope she will be one more among the many who have achieved success in sales under the guidance of a wise mentor.

Why Are Most Peoples' Life a Living Hell?

Most people don't control their mind; they don't instruct their subconscious mind because they don't control their thoughts. Most people are not even aware of the thoughts they have everyday, and they don't choose their beliefs. Instead you mind constantly sends the wrong messages or wrong instructions to your subconscious mind. And that's how you end up creating the life you don't want. You want to be successful and happy, so do you have thoughts and beliefs that reflect success and happiness? You don't actively choose your thoughts.Instead you leave your mind on autopilot, accepting whatever thoughts it conjures up and then you begin to believe these thoughts. You don't choose your beliefs; you merely accept what your mind and what other people tell you.You may want to be successful and happy. You may do everything you can to be successful and happy. But if you're not enjoying the success and happiness you want then take a moment to analyze your thoughts and beliefs. You'll find that what you think is the exact opposite of what you want to achieve. Sure you want to be successful but you really don't have any thoughts or beliefs that suggest you can be successful. Whatever you want to achieve you can if you have a belief system that allows you to succeed. If you want to make more money you have to have a belief system that says you believe you can make more money. If you want to meet the right person you have to believe that you can meet the right person. If you want to succeed at something you have to believe that you can succeed at it. So how do you create beliefs that correspond with what you want to accomplish? First think about what you want to achieve. Then ask yourself if you really believe that you can accomplish your goal. If you don't believe you can there's work to do and you're going to have to change your belief system so that it allows you to succeed. To change your belief system you have to analyze your thoughts. List all the thoughts and beliefs that you have about achieving that goal. For example: if you want to make more money but you're not making the kind of money you want then list why you don't think you can make more money. Now change those thoughts to correspond with what you want. These are your new thoughts, statements or affirmations that you should think and recite through out the day. Replace those limiting thoughts with these new thoughts. If you want to achieve success and happiness then you have to create thoughts and beliefs that will allow you to achieve those goals. Begin changing your thoughts. Begin creating beliefs that work for you. Eliminate the negative thoughts and beliefs. Thanks Karim Hajee!
